Happy New Years' Eve San Fernando Valley! How are you celebrating the New Year this year? If you are celebrating at home with kids this year and it feels a bit different, or if you need some last-minute ideas - I may be able to help you.
New Year’s Eve with kids doesn’t have to be complicated. All you need is a countdown really, but if you have some party hats, confetti, and noisemakers - you’ve got a party! Add some apple cider and fun snacks and you’ve got the perfect New Years' celebration!
This year we will be celebrating the new year at midnight, which to be honest is probably the first time in years, but if you have kids that can’t hang (or parents, like me 🥱) a "Noon Year's Eve" bash is a great option.
So how do you celebrate New Year’s Eve with kids? Here are 3 simple and fun ways to make ringing in 2022 special for you and your family.
- Decorate the house together.
Have you taken down your Christmas decorations yet? Some streamers and balloons can really transform a room into the perfect New Year’s Eve venue.
This year I will be making a countdown clock out of balloons and gift bags. You can fill each balloon or gift bag with a craft or activity, candy/treats, small toys, confetti - just something fun to count down each hour. Since I am a great procrastinator, I will be throwing some activities in the balloons so the kids can help out with the decorating.
Here are some diy decoration ideas
- Make a countdown clock out of balloons
- Make a Happy New Year garland.
- Make a glitter circle garland.
- Decorate a photo backdrop.
- Make a disco ball pinata.
- The countdown.
If you are celebrating earlier in the day this year, I like the idea of celebrating with a different time zone.
Don’t forget your party hats, noisemakers! One thing I’m excited to do this year is a countdown balloon drop.
If 9PM PST sounds doable for your family, New York’s Times Square Ball Drop Live Stream might be perfect. The live stream starts at 6PM EST.
Another more local celebration is New Year’s Eve Countdown to 2021 at the Santa Monica Pier. Check it out online at pacpark.com/countdown2021 at 11:30PM.
- Food and Drinks
Of course, no party is complete without food and drinks. Champagne flutes and Martinelli’s are pretty mandatory for a New Years' celebration but be creative!
I’ll be adding some recipes in our countdown balloons during the times we normally have snacks that my kids can make.
Here are some fun ideas:
- Build Your Own Pizza’s decorated like clocks or with 2022 on it.
- Fruit Skewers.
- Smores
- Hot cocoa bar.
- Make a ginger ale and gummy bear mocktail.
So there is it, 3 simple steps to the perfect New Years' Eve at home with kids.
